Where Oolitic Limestone is Found

Oolite stone is generally a “cap rock” material. This means it is found close to the surface of the ground, and can run as deep as 30 feet. Beyond these depths we find a compact limestone called Hemingway stone. Both stones are generally off white in appearance, but we have found the deposit to contain orange and golden colors as well.

What is the Difference between Oolite Stone and Oolite Rocks?

Oolite stone and oolite rocks are often used interchangeably, but they actually refer to different things. Oolite stone is a type of limestone that is made up of small spherical grains called ooids. These ooids are typically less than 2 mm in diameter and are formed through the precipitation of calcium carbonate around a nucleus, such as a shell fragment or sand grain.

On the other hand, oolite rocks are geological formations that contain oolitic limestone. These rocks can vary in size, from small pebbles to large boulders, and may also contain other types of sedimentary rock. Oolite rocks are commonly found in marine environments, where the conditions for ooid formation are present.
